Meet Suzanne Garrett
Owner and CEO of Travel Health Experts
Suzanne Garrett is a pharmacist and educator with a particular interest in travel health.
In 2012, Suzanne began studying travel medicine with the goal of opening a travel clinic at her pharmacy on the campus of Queen’s University. Suzanne took courses including the Westchester Travel Medicine Course in New York and the ISTM Exam Review Course in Toronto.
In 2014 Suzanne passed the International Society of Travel Medicine Certificate of Knowledge exam. She opened the travel clinic at Queen’s University shortly after that, and immediately began experimenting with novel ways of delivering service such as online consults and video tutorials.
In 2015 when the KFLA health unit stopped offering travel vaccinations, she was incredibly fortunate to have Dr. Jay Keystone and several very experienced public health nurses join the clinic at Queen’s. Those individuals became mentors and teachers for almost 5 years, until the passing of Dr. Keystone in 2019.
Suzanne now owns and operates Travel Health Experts, an independent travel health consultation service. She is an active member of the International Society of Travel Medicine and the American Travel Health Nurses Association. Suzanne stays up to date with travel health news by attending the biannual congress of ISTM, reading travel medicine journals and completing continuing education programs whenever she can. She attended the McGill Summer Institute for Global Health in July 2020.
Before becoming a pharmacist, Suzanne studied at Queen’s University majoring in English Language and Literature with a medial in Health Studies. She then completed a Bachelor of Education Degree, also at Queen’s University, with a focus on International and Development Education. Her pharmacy degree was completed at the University of Toronto in 2005. Suzanne is a member of the Ontario Pharmacists Association where she has served on the Professional Practice Committee. She also volunteers on the standard setting group for examinations at the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
Outside of work, Suzanne enjoys spending time with her four children. She is also a competitive runner and occasionally acts in amateur theatre productions.
